Photographs from the Depths of the South Pacific An Interview with Maria Di Paolo-Greer SOCIETY FOR TECHNICAL COMMUNICATION, May 2008
What are your influences as a researcher, photographer and writer?
The travel and dive books I saw didn't have the kind of photographic or environmental details that excited me. I decided to channel my passion for travel, the marine ecosystem, and underwater photography into this picture book and describe to a general audience what life underwater as well as life on land surrounding those waters are really like.
Uncovering the Seas CONNECTION NEWSPAPER, December 12 2007 by: John Grimsley
Although her interest in scuba diving and underwater photography sprouted almost immediately when she tried each for the first time, it took awhile for Maria Di Paolo-Greer to develop her skill in each area. "When I first jumped into the ocean, that's when I got hooked," she said. Now, with substantial skill in each area, the Ashburn resident has published her first book, "A Delicate Balance: The South Pacific," a collection of 132 photos she has taken in the waters surrounding the Republic of Palau and the Independent State of Papua New Guinea. She had to choose from more than 1,000 photographs, which made the decisions difficult.
Author Brings the Pacific to Ashburn LOUDOUN INDEPENDANT, November 28 2007 by: John Geddie
Ashburn's Maria Di Paolo-Greer has published a book of photographs and
narratives of her experiences diving in the South Pacific, specifically
in the waters near the Republic of Palau and Papua New Guinea. A
Delicate Balance: The South Pacific is designed for both divers and
non-divers alike, to introduce them to the variety of underwater life
in the area. DiPaolo hopes that her book promotes understanding of the
marine ecosystem, especially the predators and the plight of the coral
reefs.
